AI time tracking for coding agents

Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode record their own working time in Buezli through MCP. You bill AI-assisted development like any other hours.

Time tracking for AI coding agents, turn by turn

Install the open-source Buezli plugin or skill, sign in once and add one instruction to your project's AGENTS.md that names the Buezli project. The agent then starts an entry at the beginning of each turn, sets checkpoints after meaningful progress and tests, and finishes with a short note on the outcome. Time spent waiting for your next prompt is not counted.

  • The agent picks the project task that fits the work and asks you when several could fit.
  • One conversation, day and task share one time entry, so later turns on the same task add to it.
  • When a sign-in or restart interrupts the work, the gap is not charged.

Rounding and multiplier per project

Each project decides how agent time is recorded. Buezli multiplies the elapsed time by the project's factor, then rounds up to the chosen interval. New projects use 1× and round up to one minute. The adjusted duration is what counts in budgets, reports and invoices.

  • Each entry keeps the settings that applied when the work started.
  • Agent entries are ordinary time entries with the project's usual rate.
  • An entry that is still running stays out of uninvoiced work until it is finished.

Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode

The plugins and the Agent Skill live in the open-source codegestalt/buezli-skills repository. Codex and Claude Code install a marketplace plugin, and OpenCode installs the shared skill and connects to the same MCP server. Each agent signs in with OAuth 2.1 in your browser and tracks time for your own membership.

  • Sign-in credentials stay in the agent's credential store, never in your repository.
  • Settings → Agents & AI lists connected agents. Disconnect one device or all of them.
  • Your entries show which agent recorded them, such as Codex or Claude.

Questions and answers

What is MCP time tracking?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI agents to call tools. Buezli runs an MCP server with tools to find your projects and tasks (configure_time_tracking, list_projects), record work as it happens (start_work, checkpoint_work, finish_work), and review or correct your time on request (list_work, log_work, update_work).

How do I set up Claude Code time tracking?

Add the Buezli marketplace in Claude Code, install the plugin and sign in from /mcp. Then add the instruction from the help center to your AGENTS.md. The project must exist in Buezli, you must be assigned to it, and it needs at least one active task.

Is idle time between prompts counted?

No. Buezli only adds the intervals in which the agent was working. The time you spend reading, thinking or away from the keyboard between prompts is not recorded.

Can the agent create invoices or change my data?

No. Through MCP the agent can only look up the project and track time. Invoices, estimates and everything else stay in your hands in Buezli.

How do I bill AI-assisted development to clients?

Agent time lands on the project as ordinary time entries, with the project's rate. It appears under uninvoiced work next to your own hours. If you bill agent time differently, set a multiplier and rounding interval on the project.

Does an agent need its own user seat?

No. An agent tracks time for the person who connected it. Buezli costs CHF 99 per active user per year, with agent time tracking included. You can try it for 30 days without a credit card.
