What an invoice should contain
The exact rules depend on your country and on whether you're registered for VAT, so check with your accountant or tax office when in doubt.
- Your details
- Your name or company name, your address and a way to reach you. Add your VAT number if you're registered for VAT.
- Your client's details
- The name and address of the person or company you bill, as they appear in business.
- A unique invoice number
- Give every invoice its own number, usually in sequence. It makes the invoice easy to refer to and keeps your records complete.
- Invoice date and due date
- The date you issue the invoice and the date payment is due, or a payment term such as 30 days.
- What you delivered
- Describe the work, the quantity and when it happened. If the service period differs from the invoice date, state it.
- Amounts and currency
- Quantity, unit price and amount for each line, and a total in a clearly stated currency.
- VAT, where it applies
- Show the tax rate and the tax amount if you're registered for VAT. If you aren't, don't show any VAT. Some countries expect a short note on why none is charged.
- Payment details
- Your IBAN or other bank details, so your client can pay without asking.
How to create an invoice with the generator

Enter your details and your client's
Add your name and address and, if you have them, your VAT number and IBAN. Then enter your client's name and address.

Set the number, dates and currency
Choose an invoice number, the invoice date and the due date. Pick the currency and the document language: German, English, French or Italian.

Add the line items
Describe each piece of work with a quantity and a price. Enter a tax rate or a discount if you need one. The preview calculates the totals as you type.

Download the PDF
Download the invoice and send it by email or print it. Your entries stay in this browser, so the next invoice starts where you left off.
Questions and answers
Is the invoice generator really free?
Yes. You can create and download as many invoices as you like, without an account and without paying. The PDF carries a small note that it was made with buezli.app.
Do you store my invoice data?
No. Your entries are kept in your own browser so you can continue later. To create the PDF, the form is sent to our server once, and nothing is saved there. Clear the form to remove the entries from your browser as well.
Can I add my logo?
Not in the free generator. The PDF uses a clean layout without a logo. In a Buezli account you can upload your logo, and it appears on every invoice and estimate.
How do I make an invoice without VAT?
Leave the tax rate at 0. If you aren't registered for VAT, don't show any. Depending on your country, the invoice may need a short note explaining why no VAT is charged.
Is a PDF invoice an electronic invoice?
No. A PDF is accepted in many situations, but some countries require structured electronic invoices for certain transactions. Italy does for most invoices, and Germany and France are introducing it step by step for invoices between businesses. Check what applies to you.
Can I add a Swiss QR bill to the invoice?
The invoice generator doesn't add a payment part. Use the Swiss QR bill generator to create the QR payment slip for the same amount and send it along with the invoice.
